Last year, I relaunched what I affectionately called Lit and Lounge as a writing salon inspired by The Sisterhood. The Sisterhood was a group of phenomenal Black women writers who would meet up to write and strategize on how they would collectively try to solve the disparities and problems facing Black Americans during that time with their work. June Jordan, Alice Walker, Ntozake Shange and several other Black women writers met up to eat gumbo, fellowship, and discuss their writing endeavors. Granted, I still have not served gumbo at a Lit(erary) and Lounge event, our small but mighty group has been getting together for an ENTIRE YEAR this month.

I will be hosting our One Year Anniversary Write-in and Community Reading at Axelrad Beer Garden on April 21st. I searched high and low for a venue that would be able to accommodate this event, and on a whim, I reached out to Axelrad about reserving two picnic tables in their garden. Imagine my surprise when I checked my email the next morning. Not only did they agree to host us, but they also offered us a space upstairs away from the Sunday Funday chaos so we would actually be able to write and interact with each other. Grateful is an understatement, and I cannot wait to provide the women of Lit(erary) and Lounge with the vibes they deserve!

With no further ado, registration is now open for the One Year Anniversary Write-In and Community Reading. I look forward to seeing you there.
Community. Writing. Sanctuary, and so much gratitude…
